When I was in acting class many years ago in London, one of the major tools I learned—and there were many, acting was an amazing teacher—was how to channel nervousness into excitement.
“What are you longing for?” I long for art and poetic genius. I long for warm air that caresses me. I long for hands that are intelligent.
I’ve been rereading the classic book Think and Grow Rich. In it, Napoleon Hill lays out the principles for creating success in this world. In a nutshell: what you can imagine you can have. So imagine it fiercely and with heart and never take your eye off the ball.
“There’s nothing original out there.” “It’s all been done before.” When people say these things, I just roll my eyes. And quietly dismiss them from my sphere. You are totally unique. There is no other soul exactly like you in the universe.
I gave a talk in Vancouver this past fall called “The Things that Open Me; The Things that Penetrate Me.”
What do sex and creativity have in common? To be off-the-charts amazing and produce the results you want, they require building momentum.
